Elder Verngina Smith is the daughter of Elder Johnny and Evangelist Doris Smith, Sr. of Fremont, North Carolina. She was raised in Palmer Park, MD and moved to North Carolina in 1983. She later relocated back to the Metropolitan area in early 2001. Evang. Smith has two beautiful children, Evangelist Curtis J. Murray, Jr. of Maryland and Shenita R. Yelverton of Goldsboro, NC and is the proud grandmother of My ‘Asia Yelverton.

Elder Vern preached her initial sermon in December 1992 at Holly Street Holiness Church, Goldsboro, NC. She has over 15 years of ministerial experience. She has served faithfully at three ministries ranging from Non-Denominational, Baptist, and Pentecostal. She served as the Assistant Pastor, Youth Pastor, Praise and Worship Leader, and Women's Ministry leader. Elder Vern was charged with assisting to shepherd the disciples and provide general oversight to all church ministries and functions. She provided direct ministerial oversight and organization to Women in Action, New Covenant Disciples, mentor to ministers and young people and Christian Education. She is proud to be under the tutelage of Bishop Melvin Robinson, Jr. at The Master’s Child Worship Center in Indian Head, Maryland.

She is attending Strayer University pursuing her degree in Information Technology. Elder Vern had her first service as the Senior Pastor of Greater Victory Ministries on November 6, 2016.

She has a strong love for ministering to hurting woman and anyone in need of Christ. Her favorite scripture is Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."
